My name is Austin Elsner and I am a native of New London, WI. Golf has been part of my life since I can remember. I grew up playing at Shamrock Heights Golf Course where I learned the game from my dad and grandfather. I started my competitive career at the age of 12, competing in many WPGA junior events. It wasn’t until high school where I really took my game to the next level. I competed at the WIAA State tournament my junior and senior year and my play helped me to continue my golfing career at Northern Michigan University (NMU) in Marquette, MI where I earned an Athletic Scholarship.
While at NMU, I received my bachelor’s degree in Management of Health and Fitness and began my master’s degree in Exercise Physiology. Outside of class, I was also a member of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee for five years and served two years as Treasurer. I competed four years as a member of the Men’s Golf team, and was named team captain for three years. I was fortunate to lead the Wildcats for 4 years and cap off my playing career competing at the NCAAs in Arkansas.
During the summers between school, I worked at Shamrock Heights Golf Course where I spent time on the grounds crew as well as in the pro-shop. As I became more familiar with the golf swing, I began teaching junior camps. Working with kids is where I found my passion for teaching and growing the game. For me, nothing beats the joy of a young boy or girl hitting a golf ball and having fun.
This past summer, I traveled to Chicago to become certified by Titleist Performance Institute. I was able to gain valuable knowledge on how the swing works around limitations of the body. Golf and fitness go hand in hand and that is shown by the world’s top players. I am currently working to further my education in TPI with Level 2 Golf, Junior and Fitness Certifications. This will allow me do dive deeper into understanding the body/swing connection for all ages. Each player has different physically abilities. Rather than focusing on one right way to swing the club, I approach the swing with this in mind and it allows me to determine how your physical abilities may affect your golf swing and how to work with them rather than around them.
My main goal is to continue to grow with you and Oshkosh County Club. I want to provide you with opportunities and services, making your experience unmatched to others. I look forward to seeing you and your families soon, and working with you to continue the great tradition we have at OCC.
