Grounds and Green

Golf Course Update!

Current course conditions – April 16th, 2013 (Extreme wetness) This is unfortunately only our second day of work on the grounds due to the lateness of spring weather and all of the precipitation from last week. Yesterday most of our efforts were directed towards raking and cleaning up around the clubhouse, golf shop and bathhouse along with some light tree trimming near the parking lot. Today, we began cutting up branches left behind from last weeks’ ice storm as there was considerable damage to our course. White pines, ash and soft maples took the hardest hit. The extreme wet conditions are limiting our work on the course to areas near cart paths only. The staff are walking from parked vehicles and dragging brush back to be loaded for disposal. A very slow process at best! The snow piles are slowly melting but remain present on holes 11, 12 and parts of 13 where there is more shade along the woods. With the forecast calling for rain Wednesday night through Thursday there unfortunately is little hope opening the driving range and/or the golf course until perhaps later next week. I wish I had better news! On a brighter note, the golf course seems to have survived winter fairly well. Greens, tees and approaches all look very well. Potentially some small low areas in fairways where continued moisture has been sitting far too long may have some level of damage.
